The infall of dwarf satellite galaxies are influenced by their host’s massive accretions

چکیده
Recent progress in constraining the massive accretions (>1:10) experienced by Milky Way (MW) and Andromeda galaxy (M31) offers an opportunity to understand dwarf population of Local Group. Using zoom-in dark matter-only simulations MW-mass haloes concentrating on subhaloes that are thought be capable hosting galaxies, we demonstrate infall a progenitor is accompanied with accretion destruction large number subhaloes. Massive accreted progenitors do not increase total infalling onto host, but instead focus surrounding host causing clustering time This leads temporary elevation as well changes their cumulative radial profile within virial radius host. Surviving associated have diversity orbits. We find star formation quenching times Group spheroidal galaxies ($10^{5} \mathrm{M_{\odot}} \lesssim \mathrm{M}_{*} 10^{7} \mathrm{M_{\odot}}$) clustered around most suffered MW M31. Our results imply a) spheroidals good proxy b) absence recently quenched satellites M31 suggests M33 its first was much earlier.

Galaxies are Radially Aligned Toward their Hosts
We use the fourth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to investigate the orientations of 4327 satellite galaxies with respect to their hosts. The orientation of the satellites is inconsistent with a random distribution at the 99.96% confidence level, and the satellites show a preference for radial alignment toward their hosts. Further, on scales < 50 kpc the major axes of the host gala...
متن کاملFrom Tidal Dwarf Galaxies to Satellite Galaxies
The current popular cosmological models have granted to the population of dwarf satellite galaxies a key role: their number, location and masses constrain both the distribution of dark matter and the physical evolution of their hosts. In the past years, there has been increasing observational evidence that objects with masses of dwarf galaxies can form in the tidal tails of colliding galaxies a...
متن کاملMassive star clusters in dwarf starburst galaxies
I will discuss the presence of massive star clusters in starburst galaxies with an emphasis on low mass galaxies outside the local group. I will show that such galaxies, with respect to their mass and luminosity, may be very rich in young luminous clusters.
متن کاملSatellite Dwarf Galaxies in a Hierarchical Universe: the Prevalence of Dwarf-dwarf Major Mergers
Mergers are a common phenomenon in hierarchical structure formation, especially for massive galaxies and clusters, but their importance for dwarf galaxies in the Local Group remains poorly understood. We investigate the frequency of major mergers between dwarf galaxies in the Local Group using the ELVIS suite of cosmological zoom-in dissipationless simulations of Milky Wayand M31-like host halo...
متن کاملHow Massive Are Massive Compact Galaxies?
Using a sample of nine massive compact galaxies at z ∼ 2.3 with rest-frame optical spectroscopy and comprehensive U → 8μm photometry we investigate how assumptions in SED modeling change the stellar mass estimates of these galaxies, and how this affects our interpretation of their size evolution. The SEDs are fit to τ -models with a range of metallicities, dust laws, as well as different stella...
